ASICS is launching its most recent collaboration in the sportstyle segment, this time with P. Andrade, a Brazilian brand of contemporary design known for its unique and innovative approach in fashion.
The collaboration brings a new version of the iconic model GEL KAYANO® 14 inspired by a small beetle of the Amazon forest region (the Lamprocyphus Augustus).
Developed in 1993 by the designer Toshikazu Kayano, the model named after its creator was inspired by the beetle shells, presenting a solid exoskeletal structure, double-density midsole, and an innovative tongue design (Mono-Tongue System).
Founded by the fashion designers Pedro Andrade and Paula Kim, P. Andrade stands out for the contemporary luxury, always with an attentive view to innovation.
According to the fashion designer, choosing the beetle as the central theme came up during a research about Brazilian animals, focused on fauna, flora and biomes.
The beetle inspiration also brought an unique connection between the bug’s metal colors and the shoe design - with its metallic shades of purple and green, the result is the creation of a new color-changing GEL-KAYANO® 14, reflecting the beauty and uniqueness of the Brazilian nature.
The shoe took around a year and a half to be developed, including a stage of consolidation of its design in Japan.
